Design Features and Numerical Investigation of Counter-Rotating VAWT with Co-Axial Rotors Displaced from Each Other along the Axis of Rotation

In this paper, dual-rotor counter-rotating (CR) configurations of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are briefly inspected and divided into three types. This investigation was focused on one these types—the CR-VAWT with co-axial rotors, in which two equal rotors placed the same shaft, displaced from each other along it rotated opposite directions. For three-blade H-Darrieus properties design terms aerodynamics, mechanical transmission electric generator, as well control system, analyzed. A new direct-driven permanent magnet synchronous generator proposed, built-in low-power PM machines have been added. They perform functions—starting-up overclocking to angular velocity at lifting force blades is generated, stabilizing work gusts act rotors.
